The second in a series of interviews of those in the world of construction and property examining what sparked them to go into the business they are in, what exactly they do, and their experiences of business networking.
Joe heads Uniquo Construction which is where he is now after starting his career as a tiling apprentice at the age of 17.
He recalls how his career changed direction after buying his first property quite young, and realising his income was slashed.
He shares how he rediscovered his passion for tiling, how he navigated the choppy waves of recessions through retraining and reskilling.
What stands out about Joe is that he is a true stalwart at the centre of a community. Someone who just loves meeting people. Supporting them and just being a decent bloke.
I should have dug a little deeper! Into his boxing career. His ongoing training. But I was aware there was a family dining out experience I was blocking so just got on with it!
I have to say, I really enjoyed hearing about how Joe has maintained relationships over the years. You can see why the clients that have used him over the years keep coming back.
And the story of the last event where I was really keen on continuing the night, but was hamstrung by all the catering kit we needed to get off the premises – including a couple of dozen chip butties and vats of curry.
But it was good to hear he managed to carry on chatting to John McPoland over a pint or two more and recall the times they worked together.
Snow White? Yes, she featured in the chat. But to hear why, you’ll have to tune in!
