The first of a series of interviews of those in the world of construction and property examining what sparked them to go into the business they are in, what exactly they do, and their experiences of business networking.
John heads Property Joint Ventures, heavily involved in Property Development since his early 20s.
In this interview, watch how John expertly maintains a polite demeanour as my suggestion of a solid £100 investment is side-stepped (I tried at least twice to spark his interest without any discernible success).
Early on, we talk about the post-pandemic world and how there is an opportunity to convert older office space into hotels, serviced apartments or for young professionals who want to live in the city centre.
John discusses the negativity in the buy to let market and how he believes now is a great time to invest as someone who has seen the ups and downs of the market over the years.
So he very much appears to be Zigging when most others are Zagging. He also mentioned “BRRR…” during the meeting.
So was he cold?
Was he saving on his heating bill?
Or did he reveal a fascinating investment strategy for would-be investors to ponder? All is revealed within.
John classes himself as a networking introvert. Ask him about property and his passion sparks to life.
But he doesn’t describe himself as a social butterfly, comfortable or as communicative outside of his comfort zone.
So we discuss our monthly event format, where we help people ease themselves into the night with a discussion topic sparked sparked by the guest speaker.
John reveals that he is looking to expand his network, not just to attract property joint venture investors, but also to resource his projects when they are live – structural engineers, construction expertise, architects, quanity surveyors, M&E specialists etc. So he sees the group as a great resource to tap into when projects are on site.
